Holly Springs police K-9 honors fallen Wake County deputy

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (WNCN) — K-9 Byrd has been welcomed to the Holly Springs Police Department at a time when the name bears duty and protection.

The department said K-9 Byrd was sworn in on August 28 after coming from Holland.

The background of the K-9 is extensive with training to be a dual-purpose patrol and detection dog.

He is named after Deputy Ned Byrd, who was killed in the line of duty on August 11, 2022 during a stop in Wake County. “We are humbled to carry forward his legacy of service through Byrd’s work,” officers said in a social media post Friday…
