4-car crash on I-40 west near Durham spurs 3-mile traffic back-up into Wake County

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A four-car crash closed Interstate 40 lanes heading west near Durham on Saturday afternoon, backing up traffic into Wake County.

The wreck was reported just after 1 p.m. along I-40 just before Davis Drive, exit 280, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The three center lanes were closed for the crash, but traffic was backed up three miles — nearly to Airport Boulevard in Wake County. The scene was cleared at 1:45 p.m. but traffic delays remained…
