Back the Blue run in Wake County honors fallen North Carolina officers

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Non-Profit Back the Blue NC hosted a 5K Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Honor Run Saturday morning in Raleigh.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, this year in North Carolina, two law enforcement members have died:

  • Officer Gabriel Stainback: A Cornelius police officer who was hit and killed by a vehicle while off-duty on his bike in Concord last weekend.
  • Detention Officer Francisco Paul Flattes: A Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office detention officer who died on June 30, 2025.

“I feel like any family that loses a loved one, especially for a career choice, protecting and serving the community needs all the support they can get,” Samantha Powelson, retired police officer’s daughter, said at the Honor Run.

Dozens of deputies, other officers, and civilians devoted their time and energy at the 5K Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Honor Run which started and finished on Law Enforcement Drive in Raleigh…
