Suspect charged in deadly road rage shooting on US 64 in North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Five days after a man was shot and later died from a road rage incident along US 64 near Wendell, the person investigators say was responsible is now behind bars, deputies say.

On Tuesday, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24-year-old Ruben Santiago and charged him with murder in the Thursday shooting. The victim, 55-year-old Derick Godwin, died from his injuries at the hospital on Sunday, three days after being shot.

The shooting, one of two deadly road-rage shootings last week in Wake County, took place just before 7:30 a.m. on U.S. 64 west between Lizard Lick and Rolesville roads north of Wendell.
