Raleigh drug trafficking leader sentenced to 50 years in prison

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The leader of a drug trafficking operation in the Raleigh area was sentenced to 50 years in prison, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

Akeem Netron Holder Evans, 36, of Raleigh was convicted of multiple counts of conspiracy, possession, and intent to distribute illegal drugs on May 30. A federal judge set Evans’ sentence at 50 years on Dec. 11, according to the Office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

According to federal prosecutors, Evans ran the drug operation out of multiple homes in Raleigh and nearby areas. He also orchestrated storing, transporting, cooking, and selling drugs. Evans and his co-conspirators utilized stash houses, encrypted communications, and counter measures in an effort to avoid law enforcement, while coordinating drug deals and pickup locations with customers…
