Assistant District Attorney Alisa Black filed a lawsuit June 30 in federal court against her supervisor, District Attorney Mike Waters, alleging racial discrimination and retaliation related to her complaints about the treatment.
The suit, which is still ongoing, came after Black, who is a Black woman, made complaints of pay disparity and unequal treatment between non-Black and Black employees by Waters.
Black alleged that she realized in July 2023 that her non-Black colleagues were receiving pay raises, while her pay remained the same, regardless of the fact that she had many years of service and performed as well as her colleagues.
