Increased toll rates for Triangle and Monroe expressways begin Thursday: What you need to know

The toll rate for the Triangle Expressway and Monroe Expressway is going up starting Thursday.

Drivers can pay in two ways, either with a prepaid NC Quick Pass or receive an invoice in the mail. North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) said an NC Quick Pass account saves drivers 50% on tolls in NC and pays tolls in 19 states.

Those with a NC Quick Pass in a traditional 2-axle vehicle should expect:

  • An increase of $0.12 from $4.05 to $4.17 if traveling the 18 miles of the original Triangle Expressway from N.C. 55 to I-40 in Durham.
  • An increase of $0.14 cents from $4.19 to $4.33 if traveling the 18 miles of the new extension of the Triangle Expressway from N.C. 55 to I-40 in Garner.
  • An increase of $0.04 cents from $2.92 to $2.96 if traveling a full trip on the Monroe Expressway.
