North Carolina pub closed after it’s hit by car; charges expected in crash, officials say

CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) — Clayton town officials said a popular pub is unsafe after a driver crashed a car into — and partially through a wall — the pub on Main Street on Saturday morning.

According to town officials, the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. at Vinson’s Pub and Eatery at 800 Main St., Clayton. Officers said they found a car smashed into the side of the building, and that the car was partially through an exterior wall.

The wreck happened when the driver of a 2015 Dodge Charger was traveling west on Main Street, then the driver veered to the right and traveled through the yards of two homes before smashing into the side of the pub, according to a news release from Nathanael Shelton, spokesman for the town of Clayton.

The driver was initially unconscious and was taken to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, Shelton said.  He suffered minor injuries in the wreck. His name is not being released at this time, according to Shelton.
