Three I-440 crashes in minutes spur Raleigh police to close icy bridge over Glenwood Avenue, officers say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A crash involving at least three cars — including a Raleigh police cruiser — on Interstate 440 Saturday night in Raleigh led police to close an iced-over bridge at Glenwood Avenue as freezing rain fell, police said.

The Glenwood Ave. at I-440 eastbound crash included a car that slid on ice and smashed into a Raleigh police squad car — the officer was not injured, the Raleigh Police Department said.

The officer-involved wreck at Exit 7 came within 20 minutes of two other I-440 wrecks, including a major vehicle crash that injured three people near Wade Avenue in Raleigh…
