Raleigh’s streets may seem a bit safer today, following a significant crackdown on impaired and reckless drivers by the City of Raleigh Police Department over the weekend. In what was termed a “saturation patrol,” the department’s DWI Unit fanned out across Capital Boulevard and Louisburg Road from Jan. 24 to Jan. 26, racking up a hefty series of charges against violators, as per the City of Raleigh website.
The operation, as detailed in an official report released by the City of Raleigh, resulted in nine DWI arrests, alongside a slew of other violations. The drive to rid the roads of dangerous drivers netted 11 drug violations, two instances of firearm seizures, and a couple open-container infractions. Five drivers were cited for careless and reckless driving, while 15 faced the consequences of driving with a revoked license. To cap it off, 23 speeding violations were recorded, part of over 100 traffic stops made during the patrol period.
Such high-visibility enforcement efforts are key tools in the police’s kit for improving roadway safety and ensuring drivers who break the law are held accountable.
