Boy saved after falling through ice on NC pond; police officer jumped into water for rescue

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (WNCN) — A Holly Springs police officer jumped into an icy pond, saving a little boy who fell through the thin ice and into the bitterly cold water Saturday afternoon, officers said.

The incident was reported around 1:50 p.m. at Womble Park at 300 Stinson Ave., where Officer Evans was on routine patrol, according to a Holly Springs Police Department news release.
