The Triangle’s list of recently opened and coming-soon restaurants spans cuisines.
Both popular national chains and locally owned concepts are expanding their foothold in cities and towns including Raleigh, Cary and Durham.
Here are some restaurant news stories you might have missed.
Restaurants opening in Raleigh
- Chipotleis making its downtown Raleigh debut at the Bloc[83] development at Glenwood Avenue and Hillsborough Street this summer.
- Crooked Hammock Brewery’s first location in North Carolina is expected to open this spring. Serving bar food, cookout staples and beers, the restaurant will be located at 4501 Edwards Mill Road near Crabtree mall.
- Jeff’s Bagel Run, a bagel and coffee shop, is moving into a new development near Crabtree mall, next to Wong’s Tacos. It’s the brand’s first location in Raleigh and should open in March or April.
- Roots Natural Kitchen, offering a menu of signature and create-your-own grain bowls and salads, is opening a new location near N.C. State at 2712 Hillsborough St. on Monday, Feb. 16. This is the chain’s second Triangle location, joining a restaurant on Franklin Street near UNC.
Restaurants opening in Cary
Two fast-casual concepts are expanding into west Cary’s Alston Town Center development.
- Dave’s Hot Chicken, which serves hand-breaded and fried chicken tenders, sliders and nuggets in a customer’s choice of spice level, is expected to open its fourth Triangle location in the third quarter of this year. It will be at 4675 NC Highway 55.
- Sweetgreenwill bring its salads, bowls and protein plates to the town. The company has not announced an opening date, but the new restaurant will be at 5340 Arco St. Sweetgreen has existing Triangle locations in Raleigh and Chapel Hill.
Bar opening in Durham
- Owned by two local dentists, Durham’s Red Phone Booth will be the brand’s first in North Carolina. Inspired by the Prohibition era, this cocktail and cigar lounge will feature a big selection of rare spirits and hundreds of cigars. Marked with a London red phone booth at the entrance, the bar at 125 Orange St. will also serve Neapolitan pizzas and other Italian dishes. It’s expected to open in June.
Triangle restaurants now open
- Geer Street’s newest restaurant, Delancey Tavern exudes elegance with its green velvet banquettes and marble-topped bar. From the owners of Bull McCabe’s and Hutchins Garage, the elevated American restaurant is serving dishes such as burgers, steak frites, rainbow trout and salads. Find it at 408 W. Geer St.
- With Pastrami Tom’s East Coast Deli & Grill, downtown Cary has a new spot for deli classics. Think Reubens, Rachels, Italians, Cubans, chicken cutlets and the like. The family-owned restaurant makes sides, including fries and potato salad, from scratch.
- Benson’s Eggs Up Grill recently opened. Owned by married couple Cory Taylor and Laura Cornell, the daytime cafe at 12524 NC Highway 210 serves breakfast staples such as pancakes and eggs Benedict, along with sandwiches and salads.
