Cops Nab Raleigh Fugitive in Oxford Raid Tied to Trawick Road Shooting

A man Raleigh authorities say was wanted in connection with an October shooting that allegedly targeted multiple people was taken into custody Sunday in Oxford after a neighborhood search that briefly sent nearby residents out of their homes, according to police. Officers say he walked out of a house when ordered to surrender and was arrested without incident.

Nashawn McLaurin was arrested after Oxford officers searched a home in the Santree Drive neighborhood and repeatedly called for him to come outside, the Oxford Police Department said, as reported by CBS17. Investigators say they recovered a 9mm handgun that had been reported stolen out of Raleigh, and that McLaurin was taken into custody without any struggle. Officers had earlier asked residents in the area to temporarily leave their homes while the search was underway.

Warrants Allege Attempted Killings

Court warrants accuse McLaurin of intentionally trying to kill two people and seriously injuring another during a shooting on the 1000 block of Trawick Road in Raleigh in October, according to CBS17. The documents charge him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and one count of discharging a weapon into occupied property. Court records indicate that at his first appearance a public defender was appointed to represent him and that no bond was set.

How The Arrest Unfolded

According to Oxford officers, they set up around the residence, issued multiple commands for the suspect to give himself up, and then detained him once he came out of the home. Investigators say the handgun they seized, which was reported stolen from Raleigh, will be logged and processed as evidence in the case. Police have not released any additional information about the victims’ conditions or what might have led up to the shooting.

Legal Status And Next Steps

McLaurin now faces multiple felony counts that carry the potential for lengthy prison time if he is convicted. Prosecutors will determine whether to seek formal indictments and whether to request a detention hearing where a judge would decide bond. Upcoming court dates and filings will appear in public dockets in both Wake and Granville counties.

Where This Fits Locally

The stretch of Trawick Road tied to the October shooting has seen other serious violence in recent months, including an April shooting outside a downtown Raleigh bar that led to multiple assault charges and an Alcohol Law Enforcement investigation, reflecting ongoing law enforcement attention on gun violence in the area. That April incident was detailed by WRAL, which reported that more than 20 rounds were fired outside the bar. Local agencies say cross-jurisdictional cooperation, like in McLaurin’s case, is a routine part of handling investigations that spill over city and county lines…
