Wake County among central NC school districts closed Monday amid tornado risk

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Ahead of a rare Level 4 Severe Weather Outlook for Monday, at least two central North Carolina school districts have canceled classes for the day.

The CBS 17 Storm Team is warning about a rare level of severe storms, possible tornadoes, large hail, and other damaging winds from a strong cold front entering the region Monday from the west.

This is the first time that the Raleigh-Durham region has seen damaging winds at a Level 5, with a 60 percent chance that winds could exceed 70 miles per hour. There is a 15 percent chance of at least one tornado touching down, the highest chance since March 2021…
