Sprinklers Save the Day as Sixth-Floor Office Blaze Rocks Raleigh

A fast-moving fire tore through the sixth floor of a six-story office building near Crabtree on Saturday morning, forcing an evacuation but, thankfully, leaving everyone unhurt. The blaze broke out at the complex at 2301 Sugar Bush Road around 10:50 a.m., according to officials, and occupants cleared out as the building’s sprinkler system kicked in and helped keep the flames from spreading.

Raleigh Fire Department crews arrived to find smoke and flames showing from the sixth floor and quickly declared a working fire. Crews stayed on scene to chase hotspots and start sorting out how the fire began. The department has reported no injuries to either people inside the building or first responders.

Data from the National Fire Protection Association indicate that sprinklers significantly cut civilian injuries and property loss, which lines up with the fact that this incident produced no reported injuries, according to NFPA.

Raleigh Fire officials told CBS17 that investigators remained at the scene to determine where and how the fire started and whether any building code or mechanical problems played a role. City officials and building management had not issued a detailed public statement as of Saturday, and fire authorities said more information would be released as the investigation moves forward…
