Zebulon’s Gill Street Park temporarily closed during state assessment

ZEBULON — Gill Street Park in Zebulon has been temporarily closed while the town continues environmental evaluations in coordination with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).

The closure supports Phase 1 planning outlined in the Gill Street Park Site-Specific Master Plan, which the town adopted in November 2025 following community input. The plan provides a phased approach for future park improvements.

Environmental assessment efforts began in early 2024, with testing conducted by environmental firms working with the town. DEQ conducted its own investigations from January 2025 to January 2026 to assess site conditions, including potential impacts on soil, groundwater and air.
