Wake County has enacted a local burn ban effective immediately, expanding on a statewide burn ban issued Saturday by the North Carolina Forest Service.
The countywide ban applies to areas within 100 feet of occupied dwellings, locations not covered by the state order. The ban will remain in effect until further notice, with conditions to be reevaluated in the coming days to determine when it is safe to lift the restrictions.
“People are the best line of defense against wildfires,” Wake County Fire Marshal Braxton Tanner said. “We need everyone to take this ban seriously and avoid any outdoor burning until conditions improve.”…
