NC Children’s is shifting from big idea to boots-on-the-ground planning, with a new leadership board set to guide its long planned standalone children’s hospital as it inches toward construction in the Triangle. The governing board will be chaired by Wesley Burks, a prominent academic health executive, a choice that highlights the joint UNC and Duke muscle behind the project. Backers say the future campus will combine a full pediatric hospital with outpatient, behavioral health and research facilities, all designed to keep complex pediatric care in North Carolina instead of sending families out of state.
