UConn head coach Dan Hurley made waves earlier this week when he claimed that the program does not, and should not, hang banners for Final Four appearances. Legendary Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski, however, disagrees with that sentiment.
The Huskies will be playing in their eighth Final Four on Saturday, an achievement that many programs would hang banners for. However, Final Four banners do not hang at Gampel Pavilion. Hurley made sure everybody was aware of this fact prior to Saturday’s game against Illinois in Indianapolis.
“We came here for rings, not watches,” Hurley said with a grin. “Every team that comes to the Final Four gets a beautiful watch. We don’t hang banners for Final Fours at UConn. We hang championship banners.”…
