One of Hayes Barton’s most-watched corners is finally stirring again. The former Mandolin space on Fairview Road, dark since the restaurant shut its doors in August 2025 after nearly 14 years, is getting a new tenant, and neighbors are keeping close tabs on the renovation work.
According to the Triangle Business Journal, a restaurant operator has signed a lease for the address and is targeting a fall opening. The team has already started pre-opening work inside the space but has not revealed a name or a firm opening date.

Mandolin, led by chef Sean Fowler and supplied in part by his Mandolin Farm, closed abruptly in August 2025, as reported by the News & Observer. Fowler told the paper that shutting down was a difficult call and that he and his wife were already working on a new project while the fate of the prominent corner was still up in the air…
