North Carolina is suing electric-vehicle maker VinFast, accusing the Vietnamese company of breaking its deal to set up a plant in Chatham County.
State officials in March 2022 announced plans for the carmaker to build a factory, using incentives from North Carolina and the county, at the Moncure megasite that would bring 7,500 jobs. It was described as a $4-billion investment, and the plant was to begin production in 2024.
“VinFast agreed to build a factory and create jobs for North Carolinians — it didn’t do either,” Attorney General Jeff Jackson said. “When North Carolina makes a deal, we build in protection for taxpayers. VinFast broke the deal, so we’re using that protection to find a project for this site that will create jobs.”…
