Deadly Dayton Pileup Shuts Down US 50 For Hours

A deadly Sunday afternoon crash on U.S. 50 in Dayton shut down the highway in both directions near Segale Road, killing one person and sending at least one other to a hospital while traffic snarled across the Carson Valley.

The multi-vehicle collision involved a semi and two other vehicles, bringing Nevada Highway Patrol troopers and local emergency crews to the scene as they worked to clear wreckage and investigate the crash. Officials on scene warned the closure could last two to four hours, and traffic was diverted onto alternate routes.

At 4:13 p.m., Nevada State Police posted a traffic alert on X stating that U.S. 50 at Segale Road was closed in both directions “due to a fatal crash” and confirming that troopers were investigating a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi and two other vehicles. The post said traffic was being diverted around the scene and noted that a Care Flight helicopter transported at least one patient to a local hospital.
