The defending Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off champion is coming back to Sparks with its sights set on another title — and some new flavors for hungry festivalgoers.
Kevin McFarland with Git-R-Smoked sat down with ARC Reno Friday morning ahead of the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-Off, which runs Sept. 2 through Labor Day at Victorian Square. McFarland talked about winning the competition in 2025 and what the team is doing differently as it prepares to defend its championship. He also showed off some of the food and trophies that have helped put Git-R-Smoked on the map.
This year’s menu includes smoked apple pie in a cup, Boot Leg Apple sweet-heat barbecue sauce, award-winning chicken wings and the team’s award-winning mac and cheese. McFarland also discussed plans to use part of this year’s proceeds to give back to charitable causes…
