Firefighters continue to make progress against a wind-driven fire that threatened parts of Reno over the weekend, as thousands of evacuated residents sought shelter in the city’s casinos.
As of early Tuesday, the Hawk Fire was 27% contained after burning 15,051 acres with at least 32 homes destroyed and seven people suffering minor injuries. No deaths have been reported.
Some evacuation and road closures remain in effect, according to authorities. At its peak, some 90,000 residents were under evacuation orders. Authorities said 42,000 residents had been ordered to evacuate immediately, and an additional 45,000 were in an adjacent evacuation warning zone…
