RENO, Nev. — Hundreds of volunteers spread out across the Truckee River watershed Saturday, removing tons of trash and green waste as part of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful’s annual Truckee River Cleanup.
More than 575 volunteers worked at 26 sites throughout the watershed on Sept. 26, according to Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, or KTMB.
Preliminary results from the cleanup show volunteers removed more than 60 tons of trash, including roughly 2,500 pounds pulled directly from the Truckee River. Volunteers also removed more than 55.5 tons of weeds and green waste.
Crews took on several other projects aimed at cleaning up and improving parks and areas near the river. KTMB said volunteers stenciled 201 storm drains, planted seven trees and 171 other plants, and spread 115 yards of mulch at various parks.
