Reno surgeon first to perform joint replacement procedure

Great Basin Orthopaedics’ Timothy P. Dooley is the first surgeon in Northern Nevada to perform a joint replacement procedure using the TOUCH CMC 1 prosthesis.

Thumb carpometacarpal, or CMC, arthritis occurs when the cartilage in the joint at the base of the thumb wears down, which can result in pain, stiffness, swelling and loss of grip strength. These symptoms can make everyday activities, such as opening a jar, turning a key or writing, difficult.
