Top high school girls wrestlers to watch ahead of regional, state tournaments

With championships on the horizon, some of Northern Nevada’s top girls wrestlers are gearing up for state titles.

In Nevada girls wrestling, there are no classes; all the girls compete against each other at Regional and state regardless of the size of the school they attend.

The Northern Nevada girls wrestling invitational is Feb. 2-3 at Reed High School in Sparks. The girls state invitational is Feb. 16 in Bullhead City, Arizona.

Reed won both the Northern Invitational and the state girls wrestling title last year.

Ella Kavanaugh, fourth at state last year at 100 pounds, second in the Regional

Fernley

Sophie Workman, fourth at state and won Regional last year at 100 pounds

Shaylee Gavin, fourth at 106 pounds at state and won Regional last year

McQueen

Jasmine Morales, took second at state last year at 165

Marie Aiono, senior, won state last year at 185

Meredith Nash, senior, third at state last year and won Regional at 126 pounds
