The Super Bowl is happening right here in Nevada in a little less than two weeks, but we can’t help but feel a little disconnected from the circus happening 400-plus miles away. It feels like someone down the block is throwing a particularly over-the-top toddler birthday party with balloon arches out front and multiple bounce houses in the backyard, and maybe Taylor Swift is going to stop by .

“Man,” we’d say, standing out in the front yard to make sure none of the guests try to park in our driveway. “Glad those sugared-up 4-year-olds aren’t throwing up Twizzlers on my lawn.”

But here we are. The Super Bowl matchup is set, and McQueen alum Brandon Aiyuk will be playing for the 49ers.

But is the fix already in? Back in 2017, a Chiefs fan buried a team flag underneath the Las Vegas Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium during its construction. In December of that year, Chris Scherzer posted a Facebook photo of a friend at the construction site holding up a “Chiefs Kingdom” banner, and said the flag had been “buried in dirt, encased in concrete, with a stadium built on top of it.” Kansas City has subsequently won every Chiefs-Raiders matchup since the place opened.
