Sky Vista widening project complete promising safer roads and $17.7M in upgrades

The Sky Vista widening rehabilitation project wrapped up and officials hope it makes the roadways safer. The project started back in August of 2022 and the 17.7 million dollar investment widened more than a mile of road, from two lanes to four. It also added lighting, drainage enhancements, bike lanes, and multi-use pathways. Officials say the regional park’s foot traffic was just one of the reasons behind adding the roundabout and pedestrian safety. According to RTC data, the annual average daily traffic in 2019 around the Sky Vista and Silver Lake intersection was between 2,800 to 3,000. Experts say those numbers are forecasted to double by 2035 with the exploding growth in the area. The Regional Transportation Commission Director of Engineering, Dale Keller, says with all the new development in the area the construction is funded by regional road impact fees.
