The Reno-Sparks area will see snow in the valley this weekend as a winter storm heading toward the Sierra Nevada is forecast to spill down to the lower elevations.
The valley is forecast to receive 3 to 4 inches of snow, according to the Reno National Weather Service.
NWS meteorologist Collin McKellar said there is a chance that the Reno area could see up to half a foot of snow or more from the storm. Travel will be difficult along Interstate 80 at Donner Pass.
How much snow is Reno-Sparks expected to get?
The Reno-Sparks area will start to see the storm move in early Sunday, and snow is expected to continue throughout the day Monday.
A rain-snow mix is possible for the valley floor on Sunday, but the bulk of the snowfall is expected on Sunday, NWS said.
Then on Monday, snow will fall through 2 p.m., NWS said. Little to no accumulation of snow is forecast on Monday for Reno-Sparks.
High temperatures will range from the upper 30s to the low 40s on Sunday and into the early part of the week. Overnight lows on Sunday will be in the upper 20s and slightly lower on Monday.
