7 p.m. update:
The University of Nevada, Reno has suspended in-person classes and nonessential operations Monday for all facilities in Washoe County, including the Redfield and Lake Tahoe campuses, and Douglas County and Carson City.
All web and web-live classes, and remote operations will continue as scheduled.
Reno Sparks Indian Colony nonessential employees will have a two-hour delay Monday due to hazardous road conditions.
5:30 p.m. update: The Washoe County School District has called a snow day for Monday, Feb. 5. It comes as snow fell Sunday, with more than a foot of snow falling in some areas. The Reno Tahoe Airport said Sunday night it had received 8 inches of snow with 1 to 2 inches more expected today.
This will be the second snow day this school year for the district. The additional snow day Monday means the last day of school for the district is now Tuesday, June 11.
Three contingency days — June 10, 11 and 12 — were built into the 2023-24 calendar to be used as makeup days for any school cancellations. A school delay, unlike a snow day, does not need to be made up.
