The Metallic Eagles, a robotics team from Eagle Valley Middle School in Carson City, Nevada, won the northern Nevada’s FIRST LEGO League Championship on January 27, 2024. The team members, Hunter Budd, Nicholas Budd, Edwin Curiel Leon, Kassandra Mosqueda, Allen Riley, and McKenna Weber, demonstrated their skills in robotics design, programming, and strategy. This win qualifies them to represent Nevada at the FIRST Lego League World Festival in Houston, Texas, from April 17-20, 2024.

The team, mentored by Kimberly Tucker, a STEM teacher, and Becky Ritter, a special education paraprofessional, competed against other teams statewide. The competition tested the students’ engineering, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Tucker commended the students for their dedication, creative problem-solving, and collaborative spirit.

The Metallic Eagles will now compete at the World Robotics Festival against other championship teams from around the world. This event is a global meeting of students interested in robotics. It provides a platform for students to compete internationally, share ideas with students from other countries, and learn from experts in robotics and STEM fields.
