Most of us have had a question or two about our smartphone — after all, these little gadgets have more than 100,000 times the processing power than the computers that successfully landed men on the moon.
Often the questions are relatively simple, like how to create a new contact or free up space to add new photos. But what seems easy to some can be frustrating and even scary to those without experience.
With that in mind, the city of Reno’s senior engagement coordinator, Izabella Baumann, saw a need a decided to do something about it.
Utilizing the city’s Senior Engagement funds, Baumann created free smartphone technology classes for seniors over age 60.
“Technology is always evolving, and change can be very difficult for a lot of people,” said Baumann.
Each class is limited to 25 people, and currently, the winter sessions are booked solid. More classes will be offered starting in April.
The classes are taught by Manny Ortiz, who is also the assistant director of the Dean’s Future Scholars program at the University of Nevada, Reno.
