The Reno 17-year-old charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of her father and brother is also facing an attempted murder charge for trying to kill her sister, according to new court documents.
The victims have not yet been identified.
The new filing details the time just before Mashenka Reid took the gun from her father’s room and what the teen was thinking until, as she told police, “I just couldn’t control the urge to kill somebody.”
In a police interview, Reid said she locked her 2-year-old sister in a bedroom before shooting her father and brother but later tried to break into the room.
“I asked Mashenka what she was going to do had she gotten into the room with (her sister). Mashenka had described to me she was either going to shoot (her sister) or stab her,” the police report says.
Reid told the officer she had a knife on the family’s washer and dryer, which she was going to “utilize to kill.”
Details about that night
“Mashenka went into detail about the night of the shooting with me,” the interviewing officer wrote.
