5 Reno eateries we wish made USA Today’s Best Restaurants list

The USA TODAY released its Restaurants of the Year 2024 list Tuesday, and Reno’s own Louis’ Basque Corner is among 47 of the best spots in the country .

Louis’ is a great place to take out-of-town visitors for a taste of authentic Old Nevada fare. The communal seating means diners can make new friends as they pass the platters of beans and fries to go along with succulent chops, oxtail stew or shrimp scampi. But Reno has such a great diversity of dining options that it seemed a shame to list just one.

The Reno Gazette Journal has rounded up five other local restaurants that offer a mix of delicious food and great atmosphere in a range of prices. Specializing in dishes from linguini to lobster, steaks to sushi, here are a few other Northern Nevada favorites that deserve a round of applause.

Johnny’s Ristorante Italiano

4245 W. Fourth St., Reno

First known as Johnny’s Little Italy, the West Fourth Street spot is named for John Joseph Cassinari, who moved his family to Reno in 1966 and opened the restaurant. Cassinari’s legacy continues via this iconic Italian spot, one of Reno’s oldest restaurants. The menu consists of a diversity of Italian dishes: pastas, pizzas and a lot of meat, fish, veal and chicken.
