It’s official — Trader Joe’s new store location will be in south Reno.
A building permit filed on Thursday is seeking approval from the city of Reno for a commercial interior demolition at one of the spaces at the Summit Reno mall. The permit, which was filed by a California-based architectural firm, names Trader Joe’s as the occupant.
The new Trader Joe’s will be at 13945 S. Virginia Street #640. The space used to house Orvis, which closed in December after nearly 20 years at the mall.
At nearly 15,000 square feet, the Trader Joe’s at the Summit will be much bigger than the grocer’s longtime store on South McCarran Boulevard. The store also adds a popular draw to the Summit Reno following the departures of tenants such as Orvis, Lucky Brand Jeans and local pizza spot Noble Pie Parlor.
The Reno Gazette Journal first reported on plans for a new Trader Joe’s grocery store in the area last month.
“I can confirm that we have plans to open a new store in Reno,” said Nakia Rohde, a Trader Joe’s spokesperson, when reached in late January.
