Spanish Springs takes second in Class 5A state wrestling; Elko wins Class 3A state title

Elko was the only team from Northern Nevada to capture a team title at the state wrestling meet on Friday at Bullhead City, Arizona.

But there were several top finishers from all classes at the one-day meet.

Elko won the Class 3A team title with 187 points ahead of Moapa Valley with 125. Fernley was third with 79.5.

In the 5A, SLAM Academy won the team title with 252.5 points. Spanish Springs was second with 153.5 and McQueen finished third with 100.5. It was the third straight state title for SLAM.

The Nevada high school state wrestling meet was held Friday at the Anderson Auto Group Fieldhouse in Bullhead City, Arizona. The venue is a 126,500 square-foot indoor multisport facility.

It was the first time in Nevada history that all classes — 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A, along with the girls invitational — had their state tournament in the same venue on the same day. More than 650 wrestlers qualified for the event.
