Drain Lake Tahoe? A Sparks arch? It must be April Fool’s Day in Northern Nevada

It’s April Fools’ Day, and local agencies have taken to social media to announce a series of less-than-factual plans in place for the summer and beyond:

Arch madness: It’s been nearly 37 years since the Reno Arch underwent a major refurbishment , and the city of Reno and the Foundation of Arch Construction Enthusiasts (F.A.R.C.E.) have some great ideas for possible upgrades.

Borderline genius: As part of the ongoing Oddie/Wells Project , Sparks has plans to add an arch of its own to mark the border between Sparks and West Sparks (aka Reno). New arrivals in Sparks will be greeted by the smiling face of Nugget legend Last Chance Joe, while those heading over to West Sparks will get a view of Last Chance Joe’s backside.

If you hadn’t already taken off your shoes, they’re off now: The Reno-Tahoe International Airport used April 1 to announce plans for pneumatic tubes that will carry passengers from the curb to the gate in half a minute.

No more half measures: Environmentalists have tried pulling debris out of Lake Tahoe for decades , but up until now they’ve ignored the obvious solution: drain the lake for a thorough cleaning. The Tahoe Fund announced its plans on Monday morning, but there’s some good news: Visitors can hike and bike through the soon-to-be-empty lake while work continues.
