Rogue sailboat removed from Lake Tahoe, destroyed

(FOX40.COM) — A sailboat that has sat abandoned on the shoreline of Lake Tahoe since August was removed on Thursday, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

After breaking free from its buoy, the sailboat washed up in Kings Beach near North Tahoe Beach, creating a hazard and nuisance for the Placer County community.

With the owner not having the money to care for or remove the vessel, the legal process to remove the sailboat began.

“This process involved the owner surrendering the vessel for removal and destruction, navigating through the County’s bid process, and then scheduling the tow, haul out, and destruction,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a news release.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the transport and destruction of the vessel.
