Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry: Don’t be fooled by the name — those nuggets never saw an ocean

Fourteen vendors were slinging sacks Saturday during the annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry and Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Virginia City.

They served attendees a variety of dishes made from Rocky Mountain oysters, a delicacy of the American West. For the uninitiated, “oysters” is a euphemism for bull testicles.

Contestants served up sample plates with the star ingredient. Unique ideas included sliders, ceviche, tacos and stews. Some dishes were chewier than others…
