Father and son charged in Reno human smuggling conspiracy

RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A father and son from the Reno area have been charged in a human smuggling conspiracy, appearing in court Tuesday before United States Magistrate Judge Carla L. Baldwin. The duo is accused of harboring illegal immigrants for financial gain.

“The criminal complaint alleges the father and son conspired to exploit vulnerable individuals for profit,” said Acting United States Attorney Sue Fahami for the District of Nevada. “Human smuggling operations threaten our national security. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to continually working with HSI and our local law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute those who smuggle illegal aliens into the United States.”

Homeland Security Investigations Las Vegas acting Special Agent in Charge Lester R. Hayes Jr. emphasized the importance of coordinated law enforcement efforts. “A collaborative operation of this scale demonstrates the importance of intelligence-driven investigations, followed by coordinated law enforcement action,” he said. “We will continue to disrupt and dismantle criminal organizations that engage in the exploitation and trafficking of humans while combatting other criminal activities that impact the communities of Northern Nevada.”…
