Reno Police Department enhances safety with new K9 Bak

The Reno Police Department has expanded its K9 unit with the addition of a highly trained Bohemian Shepherd, Bak. The 2-year-old canine, pronounced “bah-ck,” brings explosives detection skills to the department, alongside his patrol work capabilities.

Bak’s journey to Reno began in Czechoslovakia, where he was born. He was later transported to a specialized kennel in Banning, California. It was there that RPD officers, seeking a dog with exceptional drive and a calm demeanor, selected Bak for their program.

The addition of K9 Bak enhances the RPD’s ability to respond to potential threats and ensure public safety. His explosives detection skills will be particularly vital in securing large events, responding to suspicious packages, and conducting thorough searches…
