Parts of the Sierra sees wind gusts over 100mph Thursday, most valley locations exceeding 50mph

Strong winds can delay flights, knock down power lines and tree branches, as well as topple over semi-trucks.

Thursday’s wind gusts exceeded 50mph for much of northern Nevada. A strong area of high pressure and warm weather collided with a strong low and cool weather to produce gusty winds in the Truckee Meadows Thursday.

It will still be breezy on Friday, but not as bad as Thursday. It will be breezy in the Sierra as well, so keep that in mind if you plan on going skiing…
