The Road Ahead: Sparks Intelligent Corridors

SPONSORED: New technology is up and running at some of the traffic signals in Sparks. The goal is to relieve traffic congestion as part of the Sparks Intelligent Corridors Project.

“Part of it is getting the traffic signals to communicate with each other,” Alex Wolfson, RTC Project Manager said.

The system uses anonymous cell data from a third party that tells the traffic signals when the traffic is moving at a slower pace. That triggers the signals to automatically change the timing to move the additional traffic through more efficiently. The Sparks Intelligent Corridors is a pilot project, so traffic engineers are learning a lot, the longer it operates…
