SPONSORED: May is National Bike Month, so there are different activities throughout the month that focus on riding bicycles for transportation and recreation. For the first time, Biketopia and Ride Reno Spin Sparks are combining for one event. It will be at the Reno Public Market Saturday, May 17 from noon to 3 p.m. Organizers hope the event will generate more interest in riding bike. It will include of booths with educational information, live music, bike checks and repairs, helmet fittings, demonstrations and a designated path for a bike ride around the neighborhood. There was also an art contest among high school students for the event. The winner’s design will be on this year’s Biketopia T-shirts.
“We wanted to find a place that people could meet inside but also have an outdoor option to go for a bike ride, Commissioner Mariluz Garcia, Washoe County said. “Biketopia had already used the Reno Public Market in the past, and we thought it was an easy place to combine with Ride Reno Spin Sparks.”
Ride Reno Spin Sparks started two years ago as a way to promote cycling. It includes partnerships between Washoe County, Reno, Sparks, the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County, the Kiwanis Bike Program and the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance.
