Reno, NEV — A major road widening project is underway as part of Phase One of a major overhaul of Pyramid Highway. However, several of you have asked why one section in front of the Summit Church will remain at four lanes instead of being widened to six lanes?
According to Meg Ragonese with NDOT, planners chose not to widen that stretch between Golden View Drive and Los Altos Parkway because eventually there will be a new connector road linking Pyramid Highway and U.S. 395 in the North Valleys. That connector road will exit at Sparks Boulevard, reducing traffic flows on the Golden View Drive section and eliminating the need to widen that stretch of road according to Ragonese.
NDOT also says the large number of private properties along that stretch of road would have made the project much more expensive if NDOT were to acquire the rights of way for all of that frontage land…
