Smoke and haze from California wildfires linger over Reno-Sparks as heat continues

Smoke from wildfires in Northern California and across the Western U.S. continues to affect Northern Nevada, with haze settling across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, upper-level wind patterns are carrying smoke from the Green Fire and other wildfires into the region. Most of that smoke is staying above the surface, leading to hazy skies but only small reductions in air quality near the ground. As of Monday morning, Reno-Sparks was experiencing moderate air quality, according to AirNow.gov.

A heat advisory remains in effect through 11 a.m. Wednesday for western Nevada and northeast California. Highs Monday are expected to reach the upper 90s to low 100s in valley areas. Slight cooling is expected Tuesday…
