The Road Ahead: Arlington Avenue Bridges Replacement Update

SPONSORED: Construction on the Arlington Avenue Bridges Replacement Project is moving forward on schedule. Crews set up an aquadam, west of Wingfield Park, in June to allow the demolition of the north bridge. The aquadam diverts water from the north channel of the Truckee River to the south channel. Now that the demolition is complete, construction is underway on the new bridge.

“We have a pretty aggressive schedule because there are only certain months that we are permitted to work in the river,” Josh MacEachern, RTC Public Information Officer said. “The plan is to complete the north bridge in September.”

Once the north bridge is built, crews will change the location of the aquadam to divert the water from the south channel to the north channel, then demolish the south bridge. The RTC expects to finish building the south bridge by October 31. The completion of the bridges will not mark the end of the project. Other work will happen on the road and in the park in the following months…
