RENO, Nev. — The Reno City Council approved layoffs for eight city staff positions at its meeting Wednesday in an effort to address an estimated $25 million budget gap.
The move comes after the city’s plans were revealed in a memo this month, contradicting the city’s previous reassurance that the layoffs were not on the table earlier in the year.
“No one ever wanted to be here. We’ve been working very hard to reduce expenses in a variety of ways, but we are at this point today. It became apparent over the last 60 days that our revenues are continuing to decline,” Reno City Manager Jackie Bryant said…
