Exploring Our Backyard, Nevada Sports Net’s summer adventure series, will run weekly features on activities in and around Northern Nevada. Today’s feature is on the National Automobile Museum in downtown Reno. This series is present in sponsorship with LT Automotive and Maverik.
Nestled in the hills well north of Reno, off the Red Rock Road exit, is Animal Ark, a 38-acre wildlife sanctuary housing the Silver State’s most unique collection of animals who can no longer survive in the wild. Since 1994, the non-profit has been a safe haven for these creatures, which includes bears, tigers and lions plus birds, lizards, millipedes and more.
“These animals are here as ambassadors for their species,” Animal Ark’s executive director Theresa Owens said. “They’re here to teach the public about their species and touch lives. People don’t want to protect something they don’t care about.”…
